Skill of tipping a Massage Therapist.
Home    →    Conversations     →     Skill of tipping a Massage Therapist.
In many profession providing any manner of physical services a tip is expected. the amount you tip to any individual can be either a reward or a criticism.

Tipping is always appreciated and how much can be confusing.  If the massage therapist works at a major chain then typically they a page less an hourly wage and usually under $20 an hour (near Philadelphia areas) so a tip compensates their work.  If the person works for a medical office (near Philadelphia areas) their hourly wage is much better.  The best thing to do is simple ask the owner.  A good one will let you know how much they are making an hour so you can decided based upon your financial needs and theirs.

Is there an industry standard tipping percentage?

The industry standard is a cash tiip of $10 or $20 for an hour massage or $5 for 30 minutes (near Philadelphia areas) .

This particular question is tailored to hair stylists, junior stylists, assistants and stylist assistants. At MBSWC you would only tp the massage therapist for traditional massage.  Our myofascial release therapist or spiritual communicators do not need to be tipped.

Should I tip more during the holiday season?

Similar to other service industries, if you have a longstanding relationship with your massage therapist or like to give more during the holidays, feel free to increase your gratuity.
